Nuclear energy option is not ruled out - Goverment.
PUTRAJAYA: The government is looking at energy alternatives including nuclear as an option for the future.
Energy, Green Technology and Water Minister Datuk Seri Peter Chin Fah Kui (pic) said while renewable energy was another option for Malaysia, other energy options should not be dismissed.
He said although renewable energy was the best way forward, the country could not stop using fossil fuel to generate energy at the moment.
“We have to look at every option, including nuclear, to generate electricity,” he told reporters after witnessing the launching of the Malaysian Green Technology Corporation (GreenTech Malaysia), formerly known as Pusat Tenaga Malaysia, this morning.
Chin said while renewable energy such as solar, hydro and biomass would be the best option, the government had the responsibility to look at other non-renewable energy to cater for the nation’s future needs.
